Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Nassau County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to read it, respond, and maintain the related correspondence. It is kept within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the site's systems may receive routine technical and activity details about that visit:
- Page-view dates, times, and length of visits
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Pages viewed during the session
- A referring website, when one supplied the visit
- The Internet Protocol address used by the device
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic data, such as which Nassau County resource pages are often visited and where sessions end. A browser can block or remove cookies. Doing so may cause some functions to work differently.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Nassau County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its reference material identifies official custodians such as local police, the Nassau County Sheriff's Department, New York criminal courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search tools shown on some pages. Their privacy policies, not this policy, govern information entered in those boxes. Each provider decides how long it keeps data and when it shares that data. Read the provider's terms before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Nassau County departments, New York courts, DCJS, DOCCS, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an outbound link, the destination's own privacy terms apply. Those terms should be reviewed before personal information is supplied.
An advertising provider may use its systems to recognize activity across websites and select interest-based ads. That process takes place under the provider's controls.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold by this site. Limited information may be disclosed to:
- Advertising networks that serve material on the pages
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers processing a query sent through their tool
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect information under the site's control. No system connected to the internet is immune from misuse or failure, so absolute security and uninterrupted protection cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, it will be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with a visitor's location and the law that applies. New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs requests to government agencies, not private website files. Executive Law §§837 and 845-b govern DCJS criminal-history functions and dissemination. Subject to applicable privacy and consumer-protection rules, a visitor may:
- Request access to personal data held about that visitor
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Seek deletion where the governing law provides it
- Decline forms of processing that permit an opt-out
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A replacement takes effect when it is posted here with its new effective date.
